Avatars

Avatars are comic representations of people. They are digital characters that are mostly used online in social networking sites and games. Children and adults alike enjoy creating their own avatar. When making an avatar the creator can focus on the interesting things they would like to portray online in a particular situation, therefore adjusting their online selves. There is a huge variety of avatar creating sites available.

In the classroom avatars can be created and used by the children online, in games and in learning sites. They can be printed and used as a personal profile or to decorate the classroom as an introduction. A variety of games could be devised using printed avatars. They could be used as a stimulus for creative writing. The avatars could also be made to relate directly to a theme that is happening in class.

Two avatar creating sites have been road tested below
